Scenes of Silence® is the exhibition that makes you speechless – in the truest sense of the word. But only concerning speaking with one’s voice. During the visit people don’t say a single word – neither do they hear a thing. But that doesn’t mean they can’t exchange with each other: The visitors enter a world of silence and take part in an experiment of nonverbal communication.
Deaf persons guide the visitors in small groups through rooms which are totally soundproof. The visitors are confronted with one new setting after the other, which can be conveyed and understood non-verbally. Each sequence is dedicated to one aspect of non-verbal communication: gesture, facial expression, body language and sign language. In the last station the newly acquired skills can be enhanced and used in a cosy bar.
